Brown butter chocolate chip cookies offer a gourmet twist on a cherished classic, yet they remain simple to prepare. These cookies are chewy in the center with crispy edges. The brown butter imparts a depth, richness, and irresistible nutty flavor that exudes luxury.
Makes 12 large cookies

Ingredients:
½ cup (1 stick) salted butter
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup + 2 teaspoons white sugar
1¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 egg
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1¼ cups chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two sheet pans with parchment paper.
2. Put the butter in a medium saucepan and set it over medium heat. Allow the butter to melt, then keep cooking, frequently stirring, until the butter foams and becomes golden brown with a nutty aroma, which should take about 3-4 minutes. Remove from the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes.
3. In a bowl, add the brown and white sugar. Pour the brown butter and mix for 2-3 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla, then mix for another 1-2 minutes, or until the mixture becomes lighter in color and thickens.
4. Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Use a rubber spatula to mix until just combined. Add the chocolate and stir gently, ensuring not to over-mix to avoid making the dough tough and dense.
5. Using a 2-Tablespoon cookie scoop, place 6 cookies onto each of the prepared baking sheets, spacing them evenly on the pan.
6. Bake the cookies for 11-13 minutes, until the edges are set. If you prefer crispier cookies, bake them for a few minutes more. Allow the cookies to cool for 5 minutes on the pan before moving them to a wire rack to cool fully. Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
